Embedly began in Boston in 2010 with a practical idea: developers should not need to maintain custom code for every media provider on the web.
That work grew into the Embed, Extract, and Display APIs, along with Cards for browser-based publishing. Today, Embedly supports content from more than 1,000 providers and continues to maintain the infrastructure customers use to work with media and links.
We operate as a focused product and infrastructure business. Our priority is straightforward: keep the services customers depend on reliable, useful, and easier to integrate.

Embedly joined Y Combinator’s Winter 2010 batch and started building a consistent layer for working with media across the web.
2016
Acquired by Medium
After years of using Embedly, Medium acquired the company in August 2016. Embedly continued serving its existing products and customers.
